KnitBoxing
Surprise Box Marketplace | Collaborative E-commerce
About this project
Collaborative e-commerce marketplace built for a surprise box product — a joint venture between Corazolana and De lo Lindo. Two limited-edition boxes, 10 units each, priced at $3,500 MXN. Sold 18 of 20 boxes. Built with React + TypeScript on the same normalized Strapi/PostgreSQL backend architecture as Corazolana, with key improvements: migrated email automation from SendGrid to SENT (saving $400 MXN/month), smart Aquelarre delivery logic, real-time inventory tracking, and a full admin panel with order management and live stock alerts.
Key Features
- Sold 18 of 20 boxes ($63,000 MXN total revenue) — Nocheztli edition sold out completely
- Migrated from SendGrid to SENT for email automation — saving $400 MXN/month in infrastructure costs
- Smart Aquelarre delivery logic: form hides shipping fields when customer types 'Aquelarre' for in-person event pickup
- Real-time inventory dashboard with stock alerts ('¡Agotado!' / '¡Quedan solo 2!')
- Admin panel with Material UI DataGrid: order status, assigned team member, delivery type icons
- Delivery type visual system: 🚚 for shipping, 🧙 for Aquelarre event pickup
- Normalized PostgreSQL schema on Railway — architecture supports multi-tenant scaling
- PWA/manifest configured for iOS and macOS Safari home screen installation
- Two collaborating brands: Corazolana + De lo Lindo

The Product
KnitBoxing was a limited-edition surprise box collaboration between two handmade craft brands: Corazolana and De lo Lindo. Each box contained 1,200 meters of yarn, a handmade piece by Corazolana, two artisan pieces by Folclórica Guti and Artesanía en Piel, and a mystery extra. Two editions — Xiuhquilitl (cool tones) and Nocheztli (warm tones) — priced at $3,500 MXN each, 10 units per edition.
Nocheztli sold out completely. Xiuhquilitl sold 8 of 10. Total: 18 boxes, $63,000 MXN in revenue from a two-product catalog.
Key Technical Decisions
SENT over SendGrid: Corazolana was paying $400 MXN/month for SendGrid. For KnitBoxing I integrated SENT instead — same transactional email functionality, zero monthly cost. A real infrastructure saving with a real number attached.
Aquelarre delivery logic: The knitting community holds in-person events called Aquelarres where brands and customers meet. I built smart form logic — when a customer types "Aquelarre" in the address field, shipping fields disappear and the order is flagged for event pickup. In the admin panel, these orders appear with a 🧙 icon instead of the 🚚 shipping icon, giving the team instant visual clarity on fulfillment type.
Real-time inventory dashboard: The admin panel shows live stock per product with progress bars, alerts when stock is low ("¡Quedan solo 2!"), and sold-out states ("¡Agotado!") — all updating in real time as orders come in.
Architecture
Built on the same normalized Strapi + PostgreSQL backend deployed on Railway that powers Corazolana — validating the multi-tenant architecture decision made in that project. KnitBoxing runs as a separate frontend consuming the same backend infrastructure, demonstrating real reusability.
Frontend built with React + TypeScript + Tailwind CSS. PWA manifest configured for both iOS Safari and macOS — users can add it to their home screen as a native-feeling app.
