La Imagen de la Palabra
13 iPad Apps | IMCINE / CONACULTA (Federal Government)
About this project
Technical Director leading a team of 8 graphic designers on a suite of 13 individual iPad apps for IMCINE/CONACULTA — each dedicated to a prominent Mexican film director. The project, titled 'La Imagen de la Palabra', featured interview videos, filmographies with movie posters, press articles, and photography for directors including Alberto Cortés, Arturo Ripstein, Carlos Bolado, Everardo González, Felipe Cazals, Gabriel Retes, José Buil, Juan Carlos Rulfo, Julián Hernández, Lucía Gajá, Luis Mandoki, María Novaro, and Nicolás Echevarría. Each app had its own color identity while sharing a unified visual system — film strip iconography with director initials.

13 Apps, One System
"La Imagen de la Palabra" was a suite of 13 iPad apps — one for each featured Mexican film director — published by IMCINE/CONACULTA. The design challenge was giving each director their own distinct identity while maintaining visual coherence across the collection. The solution: a unified film strip icon system with the director's initials in a unique color pair per app.
Directors featured: Alberto Cortés, Arturo Ripstein, Carlos Bolado, Everardo González, Felipe Cazals, Gabriel Retes, José Buil, Juan Carlos Rulfo, Julián Hernández, Lucía Gajá, Luis Mandoki, María Novaro, and Nicolás Echevarría.
The Product
Each app opened with a full interview video with the director, then branched into six sections: Semblanza (biography), Filmografía (complete filmography with movie posters), Prensa (press articles), Fotografías, Otras Entrevistas, and Entrevistador. The filmography section — movie posters browseable on iPad — was the most visually rich part of each app.
Press articles were rendered as full editorial layouts inside the app, with typography and design matching print quality — not just plain text. Each piece of content required careful layout decisions to work at iPad resolution.
Team & Process
Same team of 8 designers I had trained on HTML, CSS, and UX/UI principles — now applying those skills across 13 parallel app identities simultaneously. My role was directing the visual system, reviewing wireframes and graphic proposals, producing HTML mockups for developer handoff, and representing the project at IMCINE/CONACULTA client meetings.
Results & Impact
- 13 iPad apps delivered for federal cultural institution (IMCINE/CONACULTA)
- Unified visual system across 13 distinct director identities
- Complete filmographies, interview videos, and press archives for each director
- Team of 8 designers coordinated across parallel app production
- Client representation at institutional meetings with IMCINE/CONACULTA
